Gary McKillips served as director of communications and marketing for Georgia State University's J. Mack Robinson College of Business; assistanct vice president of university relations at the University of Tennessee; vice president of coprporate and sports public relations for Turner Broadcasting System; and various positions, including vice president of public affairs, for Contel Corporation (now part of Verizon Communications).
With the Robinson College he oversaw all facets of public relations, special events, social media and marketing communications; assisted the college in attaining record enrollments, consistently high rankings, and the reputation as one of the southeast's top business schools; publicized and provided public relations support for a variety of international programs on four continents.
Accredited member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA); elected to PRSA's College of Fellows; member of the Georgia Public Relations Hall of Fame.
McKillips is an accomplished writer. While serving as editor of Georgia State University's award-winning State of Business magazine http://robinson.gsu.edu/about/magazine.html, he has interviewed several prominent figures in business, sports and the media including such notables as Richard Anderson, chairman and CEO of Delta Air Lines; Roberto Osario, chairman of Rio de Janeiro's Olympic Organizing Committee for the 2016 Olympic Games; John Schuerholz, president of the Atlanta Braves; Wolf Blitzer, host of the The Situation Room on CNN, and many others. He has traveled to various international locations and wrote country profiles including those on The Middle East, Africa, China, Russia, and South America. As a free lance writer, he developed several articles on sportscasters for the American Sportscaster's Association's magazine and web site. Those interviewed include boxing writer Bert Sugar, Hall of Fame broadcasters Milo Hamilton, Harry Kalas and Jimmy Dudley among others. He has controibuted to two books, Elite MBA Programs at Public Universities: How a Dozen Innovative Schools are Defining Business Education (Praeger Publishers, 2004) and Total Mets: The Definitive Encyclopedia of the New York Mets (Triumph Publishers, April 1, 2012).
